5 Important Questions to Ask Yourself for IT Success in Q1

It always seems like a race to the finish line to wrap up Q4 for your business. With the additional holiday activities and New Year’s celebrations, Q1’s I.T. revisions are often overlooked until mid-to-late January. We’ve taken care of understanding the nitty-gritty of these updates, upgrades, and reminders so you don’t have to. Learning from last year’s blunders and overhauls, ask yourself these five questions regarding your business I.T. needs to ensure Q1 is set up for success.

#1 DO YOU HAVE A CURRENT CYBERSECURITY INSURANCE POLICY?

As always, we encourage every business owner to have cybersecurity insurance. We often hear about the highly-publicized security breaches of major companies/corporations, but small to mid-sized businesses (SMB) are just as lucrative targets for cyberattacks. A cybersecurity insurance policy financially protects your business if a cybercriminal successfully breaches your system.

Depending on the type of business you run and how you store or collect consumer data, you may be required to obtain a certain tier of cybersecurity insurance. Not having the right policy in place not only leaves your business open for financial hardship post-cyber event but may mark you as non-compliant by regulating organizations.

Don’t have a policy or know where to start? Call us today and our knowledgeable team will provide the guidance you need.

#2 ARE YOU GETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR PHONE SYSTEM?

These days no one likes looking at a phone bill, but it’s important to ensure you aren’t paying more than you should be. Your system should be as customizable as possible, especially if you are heavily reliant on a remote workforce and operation.

Unsatisfied? Stamm Hosted Voice, powered by 3CX, is a unified approach to internal and external communication. With a minimal hardware footprint, this system isn’t reliant on your office internet to function. Fully customizable, this phone solution saves our clients an average of 40-60% on their phone service bills.

#3 WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU UPGRADED YOUR MAC?

New year, time for a new version. It is always best practice to keep your workstation on the latest version of macOS. Right now, that’s macOS Ventura. Previous versions like Monterey and Big Sur are still supported; however, they don’t always get the latest security updates, leaving your business vulnerable to a cyber event. Versions like Catalina are no longer supported by our partners like SentinelOne or Microsoft. Devices operating on Catalina should be either upgraded or retired as soon as possible.

Is your workforce relying completely on Apple workstations? No problem. Stamm can provide your company with the I.T. support and implementation it needs to keep your Macs up to date.

#4 WHAT’S YOUR PLAN FOR THE OLD WINDOWS SERVER 2012 R2?

The end is near! Well…not near, but finally established. If you have a server operating on this system, the extended support date goes through October 10, 2023. The editions included in this are Datacenter, Essentials, for Embedded Systems, Foundation, and Standard. While the support will continue through Q4, it’s important to begin establishing a migration plan as soon as possible with your I.T. administrator.

Don’t have a plan and need help making one, Stamm’s got your back. Contact us today to see how we can get you on the right track.

#5 DO YOUR WORKSTATIONS SUPPORT WINDOWS 11?

Not just an update to add new features, fix some bugs, or security improvements, the Windows 11 upgrade is an entire system overhaul that moves your PC to the latest software version.  Step one is to make sure that your hardware is capable of running Windows 11 by downloading the PC Health Check app. Once you’ve decided which devices can and cannot upgrade, being backing up your files. The final step is to install the upgrade.
